Meeting discusses functioning of new Bongthing school at Naga
MANGAN, 07 JAN:
A meeting was convened here at Naga in North Sikkim today to discuss and finalise the operation of the newly constructed Bongthing school at Naga in North Sikkim.
The meeting was chaired by Secretary Culture Department, Ambika Pradhan, DC North, Karma R Bonpo, SLA-president, NT Lepcha, SLYA general secretary, SILTA president, Mayalmit Lepcha, representatives from Sikkim University and the panchayat members.
NT Lepcha, the main person behind the concept of this project, said that since the Bongthing school has been completed, it is very important for us to start it as soon as possible.
He also said that Naga is the only place in India which has successfully established a Bongthing school and also added that they are planning to connect the Bongthing school with the Lepcha language department of Sikkim University. The committee is also planning to open a research center, he informed.
Mr Lepcha requested all the Lepcha people to bring to their notice, those who are Bongthings by birth. Bongthing Ollay Lepcha will be the instructor for the Bongthing school, it is informed.
It is proposed that the Bongthing school be inaugurated by the Chief Minister during his visit to North Sikkim, he mentioned.
He informed the public that this school is open for children below 14 years.
The main motive of this school is to make the children ready for future to and make it a way for them to earn their living in future.
At the end, the DC North said that there should be a new committee and talked about the process of registration, etc.
The Culture Department Secretary assured help from the Department.
At the end, all the attenders visited a traditional house and Bongthing school.
