Rock-climbing event begins at Rock Garden


Jorethang, 13 Jan (IPR): Minister AK Ghatani inaugurated the five-day long rock climbing adventure sports event at Rock Garden, Zoom, today.

The activity is being organized by Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism (IHCAE), Chemchey with Passang K. Sherpa, Senior Instructor, IHCAE, guiding the participants.

The inaugural programme was attended by SE Electrical, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, LD Pradhan, SE Civil (S/W) Milan Pradhan, Administrator IHCAE Ujirman Rai along with instructors, Panchayats and other concerned officials.

The Minister said that Rock Garden has been constructed as a tourist destination with a view to generate employment and promote local tourism.

The State Government has developed the area as a potential hub of village tourism, eco tourism and adventure tourism, he added.

He directed the concerned officials to further develop this garden in terms of infrastructure and other allied facilities and improve the existing facilities which will in turn create huge tourism opportunities, thereby boosting the local economy.

The Minister further asked the gathering to organise the rock climbing events here throughout the year for the greater benefit of locals and also called on the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department to promote the Rock Garden as one of the best rock climbing centres in the state.

The IHCAE Administrator spoke about the importance of basic minimum training required for rock climbing and urged the young enthusiasts to opt for it.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Minister also flagged off four bus services for Maghey Mela celebrations. The bus service will be free on 15 January.
