10th Sikkim SARAS Trade Fair 2019 inaugurated at Jorethang


The Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission of Rural Management and Development Department is conducting 10th State Level SARASTrade Fair, 2019 at Jorethangfrom 14–23 Jan, 2019. This year, SARAS (Sale of Articles of Rural Artisans Societies) Fair is being held as part of the MagheySankrantiMela, informs a press release.

The Fair was inaugurated by Speaker,KN Raion 15 Jan19 at Jorethang. The programme was attended by the Ministers and MLAs and other dignitaries including Commissioner, RMDD,Dr. PSenthil Kumar and other officials of various Departments. The SARAS Trade Fair is organised to facilitate mass sale of products made by the Self Help Groups of both Sikkim and other states of the country.

There was participation of more than 8 states including Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu Kashmir, Nagaland, Manipur, Chattisgarh, etc.,in the Fair with a participation of about 25 SHGs, the release mentions. Within the state of Sikkim there was participation of about 120 SHGs from East, North, West and South Districts facilitated by the SRLM and NERLP. Various products of rural artisans including handicrafts, handlooms, organic products, etc., are on exhibition and sale at their respective stalls. Sale by the SHGs was significant on the inaugural day. During the visit to the stall, various dignitaries appreciated the effort and encouraged the SHGs to actively take forward the efforts taken by them in a sustainable manner.

The Fair will be open for 10 days from 14– 23 Jan. The trade fair was organised by the Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM), Rural Management and Development Department, Government of Sikkim.
