Namchi celebrates R-Day

Namchi, 26 Jan [IPR]: District level Republic Day was celebrated amidst much grandeur at the Community Hall here on Saturday.

Organized by South, District Administration Centre in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Namchi, the celebrations had Minister of Roads & Bridges GM Gurung as the chief guest.

In his address, the chief guest elaborated on Sikkim's contributions towards nation-building under the leadership of the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.

The State Government has initiated many key initiatives, innovative programmes and formulated policies, plans and schemes which have delivered visible transformation to the socioeconomic development of the State, he said.

Focusing on the students, he urged them to be determined about their education and motivated towards attaining higher goals.

During the course of the programme, the officials and staff of different departments were presented the District Meritorious Service Award.

The Chief Guest and the dignitaries presented Letters of Appreciation and awards to Junior Engineers Syndriya Rai, Pravesh Sherpa, Husian Rai, Laden Sherpa and Prabin Rai from Energy and Power Department.

Likewise, Retired Senior Private Secretary Dilip Kumar Rai from Rural Management and Development Department also received an award.

Also felicitated were Assistant Paravets of Animal Husbandry, Livestock and Veterinary Services Mr Saran Kumar Tamang, Shanker Pradhan and Mr. Kalzang Gyatso Bhutia.

From South District Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Namchi, Anjana Silal, Sub Inspector Rinzing Dorjee Lepcha, Home Guard Indra Kumari Chhetri, Home Guard Phurba Sherpa were also provided awards.

On the occasion, seven students who had excelled in seven disciplines at the 20-day winter coaching camp were also given Certificates of Appreciation by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
