Republic Day celebrated in Mangan

Mangan, 26 Jan [IPR]: The 70th Republic Day was celebrated in grand manner at Mangan Zilla Panchayat Bhavan with the Forest Minister present as the chief guest. The ceremony was also attended by the District Collector [North], Karma R Bonpo, Sr Superintendent of Police, K. Shandarpa, Heads of Departments, teachers and school students.

Earlier, the guard of honor was presented to the chief guest by the Sikkim Police after the unfurling of the National Flag. Students from JNV Phodong sang the national anthem and patriotic songs.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister dwelled on the achievements of the state government and stated that wide progress has been made in various fields. The State Government has always maintained an environment of peace and worked towards the upliftment of the weaker sections of the society, he stressed.

Nehru Yuva Kendra, North Sikkim, volunteers presented a cultural program and the best youth club award was presented to Ongshi Welfare Organization of Kabi.

On the occasion, certificates of appreciation were presented to Mingma Doma Bhutia, Anil Kumar Darjee, Shanti Sundas and Damber Kumar Sharma. They had been felicitated in the field of social work by Bharatiya Dalit Sahitiya Academy, Rajasthan Branch on 16 December 2018.

The Sport & Youth Affairs Department also distributed tokens of appreciation to various students who won medals during the recently concluded North East Youths Sport meet at Dentam, West Sikkim.

A career counseling session was conducted by Deputy Director HRDD for students. An EVM and VVPAT awareness program was also held.

The message of the Governor of Sikkim was read out by the District Collector, North, while the Additional District Collector, North, read the message of the Chief Minister of Sikkim.
