Kazi Road widening inaugurated
Gangtok, 29 Jan:
Gangtok MLA Pintso Chopel Lepcha inaugurated the widened Sonam Tshering Marg [Kazi Road] here today in the presence of Gangtok Mayor, Shakti Singh. The section of the road from Hotel Keepsa to the Power Department office has been widened, the work having begun in March last and completed at a total project cost of Rs 57 lakh.
Addressing the function, the area MLA expressed gratitude towards the Chief Minister for sanctioning the work and also towards the Palace for providing the space to allow the widening.
“Land is at a premium in Sikkim and we are grateful towards the palace for providing us around 100 metres space to make the widening possible. This was a grand gesture and will go a long way towards making things more convenient for the many students who use this road which also connects to the Secretariat,” he said.
The function was also attended by Princess Hope Leezum, Additional Chief Engineer, UD&HD, Chetraj Mishra, ward councillor of Tibet-Kazi Road, SD Pulger, officials, and public.
During the function, representatives from the Power Department, PHE, UD&HD, Sikkim Traffic, Government Contractor, Tibet-Kazi Road Councillor, were felicitated with a letter of appreciation by the area MLA.
