PHC Mos trained on substance abuse disorder and suicide prevention

Gangtok, 30 Jan:

A three-day training on mental health was conducted by the Health Department for Medical Officers at the European Commission Hall here at the STNM Hospital from 28 to 30 January.

The objective of the training was to strengthen the primary care services on mental health, an official press release informs.

The PHC Medical Officers were trained on various topics of mental illnesses, including assessing and managing mental health related problems at the PHC level .

Dr CS Sharma, HOD, Psychiatry, STNM Hospital, along with senior Psychiatrists Dr Netra Thapa, Dr Geeta Gurung, Dr Satish Rasaily, Clinical Psychologist of STNM Hospital, Dr Sonam Lasopa and Dr Rinzing Lhamu, Addl. Director, NCD, were present as resource persons for the training.

The Health Department is conducting an integrated programme to address the problems of substance abuse and suicide in Sikkim in partnership with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences [NIMHANS].

Dr C Naveen Kumar, Additional Professor of Psychiatry, NIMHANS, was here as one of the resource persons and held a detailed discussion with the Commissioner-cum-Secretary and the doctors on the delivery of the Suicidal Behavior Prevention Action Network (SPAN) Project.
