SKM hosts Sadbhawana Bhoj, sees SDF absence as proof of guilt

GANGTOK, 30 Jan:

Sikkim Krantikari Morcha organised a ‘Sadbhawana Bhoj cum Debate’ at Rey Khola in East Sikkim today. The event was attended by senior leaders, workers and supporters of SKM party.

The debate between SKM and Sikkim Democratic Front as announced by SKM did not happen on the day. It may be mentioned that SDF spokesperson, Bhim Dahal had recently challenged SKM to a debate which the latter had accepted. SKM had then gone on to announce that the debate would happen today.

Speaking to media persons, SKM spokesperson, Jacob Khaling stated that SKM was compelled to organise this event following the Chief Minister’s remarks on different communities in his address on 05 Decat Gangtok. He stated that his speech has divided communities of Sikkim and sent a wrong message to the world that untouchability still exists in Sikkimese society.

“SKM being a responsible opposition party, decided to give the right message of communal harmony and love between different communities of Sikkim to the world by organising Sadbhawana Bhoj,” he said.

On the debate, Mr Khaling said that SKM was really sad that the debate could not take place due to the absence of spokespersons from SDF.

“Their absence in the debate proves that all allegations of corruption against SDF are true. They are guilty which is why they did not turn up today,” Mr Khaling said.

He added that it was SDF spokesperson,Bhim Dahal who had asked for one-on-one debate while refuting allegations of corruption against the SDF government. SKM accepted his challenge and invited him for this debate, said Mr Khaling.
