GANGTOK, 05 FEB:
A curtain raiser event for the annual meet of Sikkim Against Addiction Towards Healthy India(SAATHI) was held at Modern Senior Secondary School today.
The program was attended by SAATHI president,Tempo Bhutia, who informed that on 14–16 Feb a program will be heldatSaramsa Garden wherein a chosen school will be awarded with the best school award.
Board memberSAATHI,DrSatyadeep S Chettri, stated that around 100 schools have collaborated with the organisation with an aim to destigmatize addiction and substance abuse among students.
It was informed that the three-day event at Saramsa will be held on the theme"Building a knowledge future nurturing our youths".
Various schools will take part in the programme which will see expert talks, culture, career counseling, paintings, and storytelling session on real life experiences, essay, poster and reading competitions.
On 14 and 15 Feb, workshop will be held from 12:30 p.m while 16 Feb will see felicitations.
It was further informed that SAATHI has reached 70,000 plus people in Sikkim along with training 167 counselors, 500 teachers and 4,200 peer educators who are students.
They also informed that class 8 and 9 students are particularly vulnerable to try such substances and drugs out of curiosity.
