West prepares for Bhumchu
Gyalshing, 14 Feb:
On the directions of the area MLA, Sonam Dadul Bhutia, a co-ordination/ preparatory meeting for the upcoming Bhumchu at Tashiding Monastery was convened in the office of the District Magistrate, West Sikkim, on Tuesday, 12 Feb.
The meeting was chaired by the MLA and attended by the DM, SP-West, SE (Power), SDM Yuksam, JD (Health), DE (PHE), Divisional Engineer (PWD), Block Development Officer Chongrang, PI (Gyalshing), AE (R&B), JE (Power) Sub-Inspector excise, Assistant Station Fire Officer, Bhumchu Celebration Committee and Tashiding Monastery.
The meeting resolved that organizers take into consideration the ever-increasing numbers of devotees turning up for Bhumchu which would require additional security measures and parking facilities.
The SP-West suggested that priority be given to devotees coming from abroad and to senior citizens and physically challenged.
Accordingly, a separate registration table for devotees shall be retained.
The Power and Energy Deptt was charged to check electrification and installation of adequate lighting.
The Bhumchu celebration committee undertook to provide suitable rooms for medical and emergency rooms.
A tent / shed shall also be installed at a suitable place in the monastery premises for the convenience of devotees and the meeting decided to request Tourism Department to provide two tents to the Committee.
The Bhumchu Celebration committee and host monastery will also take care of meals for official guests, volunteers, personnel on duty and police staff.
CSPC of SHG Lasso Tashiding was delegated the task of preparing and distributing tea among the devotees on the night of 18 Feb 2019.
Consumption of alcohol, meat and tobacco has been strictly prohibited at the monastery premises.
DE, PWD, was assigned the task of deploying adequate workers from the main entrance gate to the end point of monastery.
A joint spot-visit is scheduled for Monday, 15 Feb, for a final verification of preparations.
PHE and UD&HD will look after water supply and sanitation management.
