Apex Court admits LTVC petition for LT seats, issues notices

February 23, 2019

Gangtok, 22 Feb:

The mood in the Limboo Tamang Voluntary Committee is high at present in the wake of news from the Supreme Court that its petition demanding reserved seats in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly cleared the admission hearing in the apex Court today and notices issued to all the seven respondents.

An LTVC press release informs that the writ petition filed by Yehang Subba and Sancha Raj Limboo on 13 Feb was taken up for admission hearing today and was admitted successfully.

Accordingly, the Supreme Court has issued notices to the Delimitation Commission, Election Commission of India, State of Sikkim, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, Lok Sabha Secretariat, Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Law & Justice.

The respondents have been given a week’s time to file their responses with the next hearing scheduled for 01 March, 2019.

“We have a very good feeling regarding the case and confident that Supreme Court will give justice to Limbu & Tamang communities of Sikkim. It is sad Sikkim Govt and SDF Govt couldn't keep their given words to Limbu & Tamang communities after patiently waiting for 17 years. CM and SDF should stop blaming others for their own mistakes. LT seat is pending due to defective proposal of SDF Govt and request all Limbu & Tamang communities people not to believe anything said by CM and SDF,” an LTVC press release contends.
