Adhoc teachers call off protest, will pursue demand with HRDD

Gangtok, 22 Feb:

Adhoc teachers who have been demanding regularization have called off their protest and will be joining duty immediately, informs a press release issued by All Sikkim Adhoc Teachers and Temporary Employees Association today. This was decided in a meeting of the association held today in Gangtok, the release mentions.

It may be mentioned that four adhoc teachers had been arrested on 20 Feb on charges of blocking the highway during their dharna staged on 19 Feb. They had been released on bail on 21 Feb.

“Respecting and honouring the assurance of Chief Minister on the issue related of Adhoc Teachers along with Non-Teaching Staff (HRDD/SSA/RMSA/MDM/Non-Teaching – PTI) of Sikkim working in different schools have unanimously decided to call off their protest in a meeting held today in Gangtok,” the release states.

The release further informs that the association has decided to work closely with the Sikkim Teachers Association to pursue the matter with the HRD Department. The association has also clarified that the protest was completely apolitical and that they had no intention to cause inconvenience to the public.

“We believe that justice will prevail and our just demands will be fulfilled by the government and also request the concerned Department (HRDD/STRB/SSA/DOP) kindly pursue our demands in fast track process,” the release states.

Further, the association has thanked everyone who has supported their protest including the police personnel, District Administration officials and media. The association has further sought forgiveness from all those who had to face inconvenience due to their protest.

Meanwhile, a booklet published by Sikkim Democratic Front responding to 31 demands of Sikkim KrantikariMorcha, states, “Our government has decided to regularize all adhoc services of those who will fulfil the criteria within 2 years, and till such a time it is declared that the teachers will get equal pay and amenities as per regular employees.”
