Gangtok, 24 Feb:
The youth wing of the Sikkim Limboo Tamang Tribal Joint Action Committee [SLTTJAC] took out a rally from the District Administrative Centre [East] here at Sichey to Paljor Stadium pressing their demand for reserved seats for the Limboos and Tamangs in the State Legislative Assembly and reminding Chief Minister Pawan Chamling of his announcement that if the LT seats did not arrive before the 2019 elections, he would resign and quit politics.
Although organized by the youth wing of the organsiation, the rally was also joined by older members of the SLTTJAC.
Speaking to media persons, the LTTJAC treasurer, Adeep Tamang, who is also the spokesperson, condemned the CM’s allegation that the organisation had obstructed the process of seat reservation by filing a case in the Supreme Court.
He asserted that the CM should first see the content of the petition and study the reasons behind filing of this case.
“We are not saying not to give the seats but we have been demanding the reservation of seats at the earliest and even the Court has already sent notices to the State Government and if the government responds to the Court’s satisfaction, the case will be complete immediately,” he said.
He added that now the simplest solution to the seat reservation issue was a Presidential Ordinance.
On the same, he requested the State government and Ministry of Home Affairs to have such an Ordinance issued at the earliest and ensure that the Limboos and Tamangs received their political rights before the 2019 elections.
