Four-day multilingual theatre festival inaugurated

GANGTOK, 25 Feb:

A four-day multilingual theatre festival has started here at Manan Kendra on Monday. The event is being jointly organized by Eastern Regional Cultural Centre, Kolkata under Ministry of Culture and Cultural Affairs & Heritage Department [CAHD], Government of Sikkim.

The festival was inaugurated by CAHD Secretary AmbikaPradhan at Manan Kendra this evening. The inaugural function was also attended by Nepali SahityaParishad president,RudraPoudyal and senior officials of the department among other dignitaries.

A play ‘Aaj Ki Sakuntala’ by renowned theatre artist, Prof Shakti Roy Chaudhary from Kolkata was staged on the inaugural day of the festival.

In her inaugural address, CAHD Secretary,AmbikaPradhan expressed happiness on being part of the festival and thanked theatre artists from Kolkata.  Likewise, OSD to CAHD and a senior theatre artist, Jagdish Sharma stated that this multilingual theatre festival would encourage theatre artists of the State.
