Governor lays foundation stone of training centre for bamboo products


Gangtok, 25 Feb:

Governor of Sikkim,Ganga Prasad today laid the foundation stone of Centre for Training and Demonstration of Bamboo Products and Sustainable Structures in a special function at Raj Bhavan, a press release informs. Chief Minister,PawanChamling was present as special guest.

The function had the presence of Chief Secretary, AK Srivastava, Addl. Chief Secretary to Governor,Dr K Jayakumar, Secretaries and heads of departments, Panchayats and public of NaveyShotak GPU in East Sikkim among other invitees.

It may be mentioned that the centre, which was scheduled tobe inaugurated by Vice President of India today, is established as a centre for capacity building on the extensive use and promotion of bamboo products and developing technology for the use of bamboo as sustainablebuilding material in line with the State’s green policy.

NeelamManjunath, a consultant and expert of bamboo technology from Bangalore provided the insight into the concept and technology through various exhibits and products displayed during the function.

Later, in another function held at Old Raj Bhavan, the Governor accompanied by the Chief Minister, launchedBharat RatnaPranabMukharjee Chair for Sustainable Development established by ICFAI University Sikkim.
