Gangtok, 27 Feb:

The Students Representative Council of Sikkim Government Law College has distanced itself from the recently-filed PIL against the bandh called by the Sikkim KrantikariMorchaand which led to the High Court ordering a stay on the proposed bandh.

The SRC membersclarified this while addressing a press conference here at the Press Club of Sikkimtoday.

The SRC president,PradipTamang, has clarified that the SRC was not part of the PIL and that the students who filed it were not representative of the college’s students and were acting in their individual capacities.

“It is very wrong to mentionthe involvement of the SRC and the students of the whole college when they were neither informed nor involved in the matter. This PIL was purely out of their individual support and interest,” the SRC president of Law College said.

He also mentioned that one of the students of the collegehas uploaded a video mentioning that students of the law college did not support the bandhbut this was also his personal statement and stand and not of the entire college or the SRC.

“This is a political issue and the college and the SRC do not involve themselves in such kind of political issues, but support from individual level is a personal matter,” he said.

This issue is already under observation of the College Discipline Committee and necessary action will be taken, he said.

The SRC President was accompanied by the other members of the Student Representative Council of Sikkim Government Law College.
