Minerva Punjab FC entrusts Nawang with scouting for fresh talent and tie-ups with foreign clubs

Nawang Yathopa Bhutia, one of unseen faces behind progression of hill football in national arena, has come to the forefront as the team manager of reigning I-League champions, Minerva Punjab FC.
The 28-year-old has been given crucial responsibilities, including working as an agent to scout new players across India especially from the Northeastern Region. He will be tapping into the fertile football grounds of Manipur, Meghalaya, the Darjeeling Hills and Sikkim.
Nawang was recently signed as the team manager of Minerva FC by club owner, Ranjit Bajaj.
“I am very happy to be appointed as the Minerva FC team manager and excited to undertake the responsibilities handed over to me,” says Nawang.
Based in Chandigarh, Minerva FC made its mark in Indian football by winning the I-League in its second appearance. The club has its stamp on more than 64 players who have appeared for the national team in various age categories including the senior men’s team.
Nawang has the pedigree of being the youngest football agent in India, something he achieved at the age of 21. He is now of the youngest team manager signed by an elite club of India.
Nawang hails from Pedong in Kalimpong and was born and brought up in Gangtok. He is well acquainted with footballers from both the regions and devotes his time to football development on both sides of Rangpo.
“This is a big responsibility and challenge for me now. I have to prove myself. I wanted to associate myself with a top club like Minerva FC that has been constantly working on building talent,” said Nawang.
His immediate task lies in managing the Minvera FC team for the upcoming AFC Cup.
Nawang also holds the position of foreign relationship manager and has been tasked to develop MoUs and tie-ups with foreign clubs.
“We will also be looking forward to develop the club’s grassroots programme where we will be targeting school boys from my place especially in preparing them. Football talent from the hills can contact me. I have already discussed my plan with owner Ranjit Bajaj and he is ready to explore,” he adds.
