SDF FOUNDATION DAY AT NAMTHANG SCHOOL GROUND CONTROVERSY
Gangtok, 05 Mar:
Hamro Sikkim Party has expressed shock and strongly condemned what it sees as the “blatant contravention” of its own notification by the South District administration in its allowing the Sikkim Democratic Front to hold a political meeting at Namthang School Ground on a school day. The district administration had reportedly notified that public meetings at school grounds will be allowed only on holidays.
When SDF was allowed to hold its foundation day celebrations at Namthang School Ground on Monday, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party workers had blocked the highway at Namthang in protest and held up traffic for the whole day.
“Despite the administration having issued an explicit notification barring any political meetings at School grounds on working days, the ruling SDF party was given permission to hold their political function yesterday in complete disdain of their own rules,” an HSP press release details while condemning it in the strongest terms.
The release also goes on to “caution” senior officers, especially IAS and IPS officers, “to refrain from such public displays of sycophancy” and recommends that the officers instead try and “assure the people and strengthen their belief in the rule of law.”
HSP has also demanded that senior officers reiterate their commitment to their own oaths as public servants and ensure that all are treated equally under the law.
