Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee today released its first list of 16 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in the State. It is informed that this was a tentative list as it has been sent to the All India Congress Committee for the approval.
Addressing a press conference here this evening, SPCC working president, Dr Dipendra Gurung, announced the names of 16 candidates - five candidates each from East and West districts, four from South District and 1 for the Sangha.
Pema Rinzing Bhutia will contest from Yuksom-Tashiding constituency on a Congress ticket; Mangal Subba from Yangthang; Dr Dipendra Gurung from Maneybong-Dentam; Dal Bahadur Karki from Gyalshing-Bermiok; Tej Bahadur Rawat from Soreng-Chakung; Ganga Maya Cintury from Salghari-Zoom; Ishwar Prasad Rai from Poklok-Kamrang; Sanchaman Chettri from Namthang-Rateypani; Deepak Kumar Bhandari from Temi-Namphing; Tula Ram Guragai from Khamdong-Singtam; Deo Kumar Pradhan from Rhenock; Gopal Chettri from Chujachen; Dorjee Wangdi Bhutia from Gnathang-Machong; Sunumit Targain from Gangtok; Penzong Lepcha from Dzongu and Acharya Karma Tashi from Sangha.
He informed that the AICC has already approved SPCC president Bharat Basnet as Lok Sabha candidate from Sikkim.
Dr Gurung mentioned that while the party was open to alliances, when that did not materialize, it decided to go it alone and contest all the assembly and Lok Sabha seats in the State.
SPCC president, Bharat Basnet, informed that AICC will also included two issues of Sikkim in the national manifesto - restoration of Nepali seats in the State Assembly and tribal status for left out communities on the basis of Sikkim Subject.
