Gangtok, 03 Apr: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha has countered SDF allegations of poll violence and accused the Sikkim Democratic Front itself of resorting to muscle and money tactics. SKM spokesperson, Jacob Khaling, today alleged that there were many instance of violence and distribution of money by the ruling party to lure the voters.
He claimed that police have also recovered weapons and jars of petrol from an SDF election campaign vehicle from Upper Linkey under Gnathang-Machong constituency at around 9:30 AM this morning.
He adds that some SKM workers had recorded the entire incident on their mobile phones but the observer present on the spot deleted all evidence.
Mr Khaling has questioned the Election Commission on the reason behind this and has urged the Election Commission and Chief Electoral Officer, Sikkim, to release videos and photographs of the incident taken by election officials present at the spot.
Mr Khaling also alleged today that two SDF supporters were found distributing money at Salghari under Poklok-Kamrang constituency on 27 March. SKM workers stopped them and also filed an FIR on the matter, he adds.
About the incident in which an SDF party worker was stabbed on 27 March, Mr Khaling claimed that in this case, the assailant was also an SDF worker. SDF was however misrepresenting facts by claiming that the victim had been attacked by SKM supporters.
The victim, who is undergoing treatment in Siliguri, should be provided police security, he added.
He also accused former Minister RB Subba who recently rejoined SDF of distributing money in Daramdin and that substantial cash was seized on an SKM complaint on 01 April at Rorathang. He has appealed to the police to investigate the matter seriously.
There have been more incidents in which SDF office-bearers have been stopped from distributing money and one in which SDF supporters assaulted police personnel on duty, he added.
