PNGS taekwondo team bags 11 medals in Kimunyong India C’ship
GANGTOK, 03 Apr: Paljor Namgyal Girls School taekwondo team has returned with 11 medals from Kimunyong India 2019, an Open Taekwondo Championship, held from 29 to 31 March at Guwahati in Assam. The nine-member team has won 3 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 3 bronze medals in the championship. Gold medallists are Akriti Rai [Class VI], Kritika Dhakal [Class X] and Neha Rai [Class IX], while silver medals bagged by Angelina Lepcha [Class III], Nikila Limboo [Class VI], Ashmit Lepcha [Class VI], Ashmit Lepcha [Class VI] and Ashmita Rai [Class XII]. Likewise, bronze medallists are Jessica Rai [Class III], Smriti Sapkota [Class III] and Ashmita Rai [Class XII]. The team was led by PNG School coaches, Sabina Sundas and Tenzing N Bhutia. A press release from the school informs that PNG School started its taekwondo coaching classes in 2011. Accordingly, taekwondo classes were made compulsory as one of its co-curricular activities of the school from Classes I - VIII beginning from the academic session 2019. This was initiated as per the syllabus prescribed under Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi for self-defence of the girl child, it is informed. The release informs that more than 1500 hundred martial artists participated from all the over the country including Nepal in the championship, which was organized by Kimungyong Sport Committee India & India Dojang Sports Organisation.
