SDF accuses SKM of continuing violence

April 5, 2019

Gangtok, 04 Apr: Sikkim Democratic Front today continued its allegations of poll violence by Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, a recourse SKM was taking after having failed to do politics of programmes and policies.
Addressing a press conference here today, SDF spokesperson, KT Gyaltsen, countered SKM claims and insisted that SDF member, Upen Rai, was stabbed by an SKM youth Joel Rai at Pabong under Poklok-Kamrang constituency on 27 March. SKM, it may be recalled, has claimed that Joel Rai was an SDF youth.
He also recounted other incidents of violence targeting SDF supporters and office-bearers and stated that SKM’s penchant for violence can be explained to the fact that it is lead by a person who has served time in jail on a conviction held up by the courts.
In the latest instance, on 03 April Zilla Panchayat of Maneybong Dentam was ambushed and restrained by SKM supporters while he was travelling with his family to Uttarey for personal work, Mr Gyaltsen informed.
The SKM party workers abused and assaulted the Zilla Panchayat and even those who tried to intervene, Mr Gyaltsen alleged.
He further informed that SDF will write to the Central Election Commission and Sikkim Police DGP to take immediate action on these matters.
Addressing the SKM allegation that OFOJ beneficiaries have still not received their salaries, Mr Gyalsten explained that some salaries have been delayed because those beneficiaries have still not submitted their appointment letters and many have not obtained the 14-digit number from DESME to process their dues and avoid duplication.
