Chamling ends campaign on strong note at Jorethang

Jorethang, 09 Apr:

A confident Sikkim Democratic Front party president, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, closed his party’s election campaign today with a public meeting at Jorethang, South Sikkim.

“I am sure that SDF will sweep all 32 constituencies and retain the Lok Sabha seat as well. I am confident about that and happy with the response of the people to our campaign,” he shared while interacting with media-persons here today.

He admitted that there was always more to be done and better and said that he was not completely satisfied with campaign.

He, however, added that more than the political aspects of the campaign, what has touched him more deeply was the “enormous love and blessings” he received from the people through the campaign.

The run-up to the elections gave parties here barely a month to campaign and some time was also taken up with candidate announcements and manifesto releases as well. Today’s campaign meeting was only the tenth chaired by Mr Chamling. Sikkim has 32 assembly constituencies.

The campaign was held for the three constituencies of Poklok-Kamrang, Namchi Singhithang and Zoom Salghari and was attended by a large number of party supporters.

In his address, Mr Chamling focused on the achievements of his government over the past 25 years and highlighted the programmes and schemes planned for the future and included in the party manifesto.

He urged the people to take careful note of all the announcements made by him and included in the manifesto and also evaluate his government’s performance thus far.

The next SDF Government, he said, will focus more on intellectual development and creation of quality human resource even as all the developmental initiatives are sustained and improved upon.

“I have dedicated my life to the service of Sikkim and its people and worked to make their dreams come true,” he said, adding, “To provide happiness and peace to the people of Sikkim is my happiness and success.”

The SDF government has institutionalized democracy and established an environment in which the people are free and fearless, he added.

He added that pending demands and incomplete works will be completed in the next term.

The following are some of the announcements he made for the area:

  • A college of music College in Jorethang

  • Tourist Spot at Chiwa Bhanjyang

  • Upgradation of Jorethang Public Ground into a quality stadium

  • Beautification of various markets in Jorethang and unique branding of Jorethang

He also lashed out against the Opposition parties and accused them of misleading the people. He urged everyone to vote responsibly to save Sikkim and to keep it secure.
