Around 5,000 devotees from different communities and faiths came together to celebrate Baisakhi here at the Station Gurudwara in Deorali.
“Baisakhi marks the Sikh New Year and commemorates the formation of the Khalsa Panth of warriors under Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699. This festival also marks the onset of the harvest season and ripening of Rabi crops. It observes major event in the history of Sikhism and the Indian sub-continent that happened in Punjab region,” informs a press release.
The release adds that on the occasion, Maj Gen RC Tiwari, GOC, Black Cat Division, extended his greetings to the Black Cat troops and entire Sangat of Gangtok.
“In a message, GOC said that Baisakhi was the festival of equality, humanity, brotherhood and compassion for all. It is also devoted to the hard working farmers that enabled peoples to survive joyfully,” the release adds.
