If you visit the village of Gor at Lower Dzongu you will not find even a single wrapper as the students here are one mission to make this area free from non-biodegradable waste materials.
The students and teachers of Gor Secondary school of Dzongu, North Sikkim who have been collecting sweet wrappers and plastics are recycling it into decorative items. These students have made dolls by stuffing them with the wrappers of sweets and chewing gum and also some hand bags as part of their extra-curricular activities.
Children are very enthusiastic in recycling and making new things with waste, said Headmistress,Tseten Lhamu Lepcha.
She further added that the main motive behind recycling is to make children aware that their school premises as well as their villages remain free of non-biodegradable waste.
