Four under-21 year old footballers from Sikkim are leaving Monday for Jamshedpur to attend the selection trials for the reserve team of ISL club Jamshedpur FC. The trial is scheduled for 24 and 25 April and the trial slot for Sikkim players has been facilitated by Bikash Jairu who plays for Jamshedpur FC.
The four players are Prashant Chettri, 20, midfielder; Roman Subba, 19, left winger; Rabin Sharma, 18, midfielder and Boxer Pradhan, 20, midfielder.
“We are excited about the selection trial. Jamshedpur FC is a big ISL club and to get selected for its reserve team will be a big achievement for us. We want to give our best. We are also fit and in form having played in Santosh Trophy recently for Sikkim,” the four players said.
Bikash Jairu informs that Jamshedpur FC is putting together an u-21 reserve team and had enquired about footballing talent from Sikkim for the selection trial.
“I then contacted interested players here. I am happy that four young players from Sikkim are going for the trial. I wish them the best for the selection trial. Getting selected for the reserve team will provide them with huge exposure and present an opportunity to play in the I-League second division and major football tournaments like Durand Cup. Players from the reserve team will also get the opportunity to be considered for the main squad,” he said.
Bikash is presently in Sikkim now that the ISL season has concluded. He hails from Gyalshing and will be joining Jamshedpur FC in August for pre-season football.
Another Sikkimese footballer, Robin Gurung, also plays for Jamshedpur FC.
