Postal ballots exchanged

Gangtok, 22 Apr [IPR]:

Even as allegations are being traded over postal ballots between parties, the ballots already cast at the facilitation centres established in the districts were exchanged between the districts at Singtam Police Station today in the presence of representatives of the contesting candidates.

Postal Ballots were brought to Singtam Police Station under the supervision of Nodal Officers for Postal Ballots of all four districts.

All exchanged ballot papers of the respective constituencies were taken to designated strong-rooms in the district headquarters where they will kept under 24X7 security vigil, an official press release informs.

The ballot papers exchanged today were cast till poll day at the facilitation centres and from thereon, postal ballots will be received only through post till the start of counting on 23 May.

These postal ballots were cast at districts where the employees in question are currently posted and need to be desptached to constituencies where they are enrolled as voters. After these were sorted accordingly, the exchange was held today.

Representatives of political parties were allowed to not only witness the exchange, but also follow the designated vehicles in which the delegated officials arrived for the exchange and returned with the ballot papers.
