Governor begins two-day tour of West Sikkim


Gyalshing, 24 Apr (IPR):

The two-day West Sikkim visit of Governor, Ganga Prasad, officially started today from NHPC Hingdam where he planted tree saplings for cleaner environment.

The Governor then visited the Alpine Cheese Factory at Dentam where he met with the Manager and staff. The Manager explained in detail the process of how cheese and other products are produced. Mr Prasad toured the factory and interacted with the officials whilst addressing them with ideas to increase production and assured to help them in every possible way.

He then proceeded towards the Dentam Forest Guest House where he met with farmers of Dentam and members of the Self Help Groups.

The Governor in his address to the farmers and SHGs mentioned his deep desire to meet with the farmers and Panchayats of the region which he has been doing since the beginning of his tenure in Sikkim.

He also assured the farmers that their problems would be dealt with swiftly regarding their produce which needs to be properly marketed. Further, he mentioned that the farmers need to benefit from their produce and the state's organic policies have indeed made the state famous in the country for which the farmers are the pillars. He also mentioned that the organic products are in huge demand for which he has constantly kept bringing the issue of helping the farming community to the notice of the Government.

He also stressed on the importance of Water harvesting which should be practiced well in areas facing acute shortages of water. He acknowledged the contributions of the farmers which he feels that should not be gone unnoticed hence the issues would be given priority.

The Governor also distributed blankets to the needy people of Dentam.
