Postal stamp in memory of litterateur Shiva Kumar Rai

GANGTOK, 26 Apr: A postal stamp in memory of renowned and respected Nepali litterateur, Late Shiva Kumar Rai was released by the Governor, Ganga Prasad on the occasion of his birth centenary celebration here at Namgyal Institute of Tibetology [NIT], Deorali on Friday. The celebration was organised by Shiva Kumar Rai Centenary Celebration Committee. Shiva Kumar Rai, born in Rhenock on 26 April in year 1919, was a renowned writer and politician. He was awarded with many awards for his works including the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 1978 for his collection of short stories ‘Khaharey’. On the occasion, the Governor also released a music album by Shiva Kumar Rai Centenary Celebration Committee president and writer, SD Dhakal. The Governor spoke about the life and contributions of Shiva Kumar Rai especially in Nepali literature. He also mentioned about his contribution and selfless service to the society. He stated that the works and contributions of Late Rai will never be forgotten. Likewise, the Celebration Committee president, Mr Dhakal and Sikkim Kalakar Sangh president, Chunnilal Ghimirey, who is also the general secretary of the celebration committee, gave a brief talk on the life, important incidents and contributions of Shiva Kumar Rai.
