Excellence in Journalism award for Ajay Agarwal

Gangtok-based journalist Ajay Agarwal of Sikkim Chronicle has been named for this year’s ‘Excellence in Journalism’ award constituted by Sikkim Express in the memory of Late Ram Patro, the founding editor of the newspaper.
Mr Agarwal’s name was unanimously endorsed by the Ram Patro Memorial Award Committee on Friday, a press release informs.
The award is presented annually to journalists in Sikkim and North Bengal who have made a visible social impact through their journalism. The award celebrates the torchbearers of media in the region as per the principles of Late Ram Patro, the release adds.
Similarly, the Ram Patro Memorial Award Committee also annually presents the ‘Best Working Journalist in Sikkim Express & Himali Bela Award’ to a staff reporter/correspondent working either in Sikkim Express or Himali Bela.
This year, the Ram Patro Memorial Award in this category is being presented to Sikkim Express staff reporter Isabella Gurung.
Isabella joined SIKKIM EXPRESS in December, 2016 and is based in Gangtok as a staff reporter. She hails from Dowhill, Kurseong and has a Masters in mass communications from Sikkim University. She mostly covers academics, arts & literature, entertainment and social events.
The Ram Patro Memorial Award function is scheduled on May 17 at Gangtok.
Ram Karki, presently a member of Parliament and formerly a minister in Nepal government, has agreed to attend the awards function as the chief guest. He was also the associate editor of Himali Bela in the late 90s.
Senior journalist Karma Paljor, editor-in-chief of East Mojo, is attending the award function as the guest of honour.
