5 tourists killed in road mishap

Gangtok, 29 Apr:

Five tourists hailing from Hooghly, West Bengal, were killed when the Mahindra Maxx passenger vehicle they were travelling in went off the road at 7th Mile on JN Road while returning from Baba Mandir near Nathula on Sunday at 6:40 PM. Police records reveal that while four passengers died on the spot, one succumbed to her injuries in hospital. There were nine people on board the ill-fated vehicle including the driver who has since been booked in connection with the accident. The dead and the injured were evacuated from site with help from Home Guards (SDRF), local villagers, driver associations and tour operators. Those killed in the accident are: Kakila Bose, 42, Shenasish Bose, 58, Soma Kar, 32, Sandeep Kaur, 44, and Subhajit Bose, 26. Mahuya Patra, 21, and Surjyas Kaur, 05, are currently undergoing treatment for their injuries.
