Singtam overrun by animal bite cases

Singtam, 03 May:

The District Hospital here at Singtam has attended to 92 animal bite cases in the month of April. The numbers are worrying, and even more so since the problem does not appear to be going away any time soon.

Confirming the number, the registration clerk at the hospital, Pravin Tamang, said, “Everyday, approximately three animal bite cases are brought in. The victims include everyone – children, teens, elderly, men, women… In short, everyone is affected.”

While 80% of the cases are of dog bites, patients have also been brought in after being bitten or scratched by cats, monkeys and even rats.

Singtams medical concerns don’t end with animal bite cases and of late, there has been an increase in the number of skin diseases being reported. With a skin specialist available at the hospital only three days a week, not only is the doctor over-worked when on duty, the people have continuing irritations.
