SUNDAY CLEAN-UP: Residents of Raigoan, Lower Burtuk, Gangtok, undertook a daylong cleanliness drive to clear up clogged drains and jhoras along a 1.5 km stretch of a rural road connecting the recently opened hospital to the village. The initiative was taken to ensure proper channeling of rainwater into the nearby stream and to avoid water clogging and runoff at roads. Since Gangtok is witnessing heavy rainfall during the later afternoon hours, the road connecting Raigoan is in danger of being damaged. Early measures were hence put into action by the combined effort of the residents of Raigaon to ensure that road connectivity remains intact. The people of Raigoan are expressed gratitude towards the construction company of the hospital at Sokeythang for providing a dozer and extending support. [from RAJEN PRADHAN]
