POCSO accused Govt Teacher placed under suspension
Gangtok, 15 May:
Subhendu Nath, a graduate teacher at Namchi Senior Secondary School, was placed under suspension by the Human Resource Development Department today following his arrest and detention for more than 48hours in a Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The accused teacher was taken into custody on 08 May 2019 following allegations for which he was booked under the POCSO Act.
The HRDD order on his suspension explains that the teacher in question was placed under suspension in terms of Rule 8(a) of SGS (Discipline and Appeal) Rules 1985 and shall remain suspended until further orders.
The HRDD order further directs that during the period of his suspension, the suspended teacher will report to the office of the Additional Director, HRDD (South), and shall not leave the headquarters without obtaining prior permission of the Additional Director, HRDD (South).
The offence in question was allegedly committed during a tuition class that the government teacher conducts in the evenings. There is also a standing order of the HRDD issued in the year 2016 which explicitly forbids government teachers from taking tuition classes in private coaching centres, education societies etc. The accused teaches mathematics.
