Buddhist shrine at Statue of Unity finalized

Gangtok, 21 May: The Pang Lhabsol Celebration Committee at the Statue of Unity, MG Marg, Gangtok, Sikkim, successfully conducted a workshop on the theme of Pang Lhabsol & Unity,on 19 May.

A press release informs that the basic objective of the workshop was to seek advice and inputs from monks, intellectuals, organizations and concerned members of the Sikkimese society in the overall construction of the Dome and other components of the Complex. The daylong deliberation was held in the statue of Unity complex, MG Marg, Sikkim.

Welcome address was delivered by general secretary, Namgyal Lepcha followed by presentation on the journey of construction of Statues and Dome bypresident PLCC, T Lachungpa.

Dr Hishey Wangchuck gave a PowerPoint Presentation highlighting various religious and cultural aspects. This was followed by PPT by Dr Kunzang N Lachungpa and Jigme Wangchuck on the details of the Buddhist Choesam (Shrine).

Lopen Tempo Gyatso presented a Thanka representing “Refuge Tree of Rigzen Sogdrup” to the president of PLCC and another one to the executive committee of the PLCC.

The draft drawing of the Lepcha shrine was also shared in the workshop by vice president, Tseten Lepcha.

After due deliberations it was decided that idols of ‘Naljor Chyedzee’,comprising Gyalwa Lhachun Chhinpo, Kathok Kunka Zangpo, Ngadag Sempa Chhinpo, Chogyal Phuntsog Namgyal and a large size idol of Guru Rinphoche will be installed. Further, the Neysol texts will be kept in the shrine.

As per the advice of Lopen Tempo Gyatso, other aspects of the Shrine should be in conformity with the Choesam in Tsuklakhang (Royal Chapel), the release mentions.

A study team was also constituted to carry forth proper research and publication on Pang Lhabsol,Unity(Brotherhood) and other related historical, cultural & religious with option for including other scholars.
