Philatelic and Numismatic Workshop in Kalimpong

A Philatelic and Numismatic workshop was organised at Vrindavan School, 12th Mile, Kalimpong, on 31 May. The workshop was meant for students of classes VI and above.

Conducted with the help of Alpine Philatelic and Numismatic Society (APNS), Darjeeling, the Secretary of the Society, Vivek Yonzone, conducted the hour-long workshop which covered details of Stamp and Coin collecting and also delved on Hobby Development and its importance.

The students were also handed out packets of stamps, Stamp brochures, First Day Covers.

The workshop was followed by an exhibition of Stamps and Coins put together by students of the Philatelic and Numismatic Club of Vrindavan School. The Post Master, Kalimpong, was invited as a guest to the event. The club is an initiative of Siddhant Sharma of Class 9 of the school.

Various district, state and national award winning exhibits from APNS and the collection of the Director of the School, Lawan Pradhan, were also displayed.

APNS, started in February 2018 and based in Darjeeling, has been working to promote Philately and Numismatics in the Hills.

Mr Yonzone said, “It’s a very proud moment for the Society as Sidhant Sharma is a product of APNS. He had attended Protsahan - 2018, an exhibition and workshop organised by APNS in Kalimpong last year, got initiated into it. He joined the Society and since then he has done a lot for its promotion at the student and School level’.

The exhibition was open for all the students and the parents later in the day.
