Group C & D medical employees hopeful new govt will address their demands

Gangtok, 04 Jun:

All Sikkim Medical Government Employees Welfare Association [group C & D] has expressed hope that the new government will take up the long-pending issues of group D employees by constituting a committee to examine the problems and issues.

Addressing a press conference here today, president of the association, Ramdas Nepal, informed that group D employees of medical wing of the State “have been facing injustice and suppression” for a long time.

He stated that the association has repeatedly raised these issues with the department and that the previous government initiated no follow-up action.

He informed that most of group D employees in the medical wing have been working on the same post since their appointment and many have even retired without a promotion.

Mr Nepal informed that the association had placed the issue of promotion of group D employees repeatedly with the department and the government but no action was ever taken.

He added that the employees have also been deprived of all government holidays of the State except for Sundays. Added to this, the pay grade of group D was also not equivalent to other employees.

“The departmental officials have always ignored our issues and we were never heard in the last 25 years in the earlier government. We are very hopeful that the new government in the State will give special priority to our issues and give justice to us,” he said.

He also expressed that the association wants to meet the Chief Minister to place their issues afresh.
