Last government pilfered, we will be austere: CM

Sikkim Krantikari Morcha president, Chief Minister PS Tamang [Golay] has attended the thanksgiving programme of his party for Shyari constituency at Chandmari here on Sunday. The programme was also attended by Ministers, Kunga Nima Lepcha, who also happens to be the area MLA, Sangha MLA Sonam Lama and Kabi-Lungchok MLA Karma Loday Bhutia along with other leaders, workers and supporters of SKM.

In his address, the CM alleged that the administration and finances of Sikkim have totally collapsed under the past 25 years of SDF government.

He informed that the SKM government will soon release a White Paper on the State’s finances and that this would expose SDF government’s misdeeds and corruption. He stressed that it was important for the people to know the truth of the earlier government.

The CM also assured that the State government would gradually fulfill all its promises and announcements.

He contended that people have started witnessing a change in the system in the barely two weeks that SKM has been in office and assured that the people will see even more of positive change in the near future.

He stated that austerity was a priority of the government and that “serious and big decisions” on this line will be announced in the coming days.  

Mr Tamang said, “I have no desire to enjoy on government expenditure like the last CM as I have grown up in a simple family. I will continuously work for the people by living in a simple government house and using an ordinary Scorpio vehicle.”

He pointed out that the government has declared a 5-day working week in the interest of government employees and urged them to work sincerely for the people in all working days.

He directed the Police administration not to compromise on law and order issues and maintain peace and security. He directed that strict action be taken against anyone involved in illegal activities in the name of the party.

Likewise, the area MLA expressed his deep gratitude towards the people of the constituency for returning him for the second consecutive time to the Assembly on an SKM ticket.

He also assured to continue to work sincerely for the development of the area and the welfare of the people of the constituency.

An SKM press release issued by party vice president, Birendra Tamling, informs that before the programme, the CM offered prayers for the peace and security of all Sikkimese people at Enchey monastery and also gave a patient hearing to the issues and demands of Enchey monks and assured to work on these in the coming days.
