HC Registry puts brakes on too many adjournments
Gangtok, 12 Jun:
The High Court Registry has made it clear that cases pending for a long time will not be granted further time and directed counsels appearing for such cases not to seek adjournments after being listed by the Registry.
As per the HC Registry Notice, 34 such cases have been listed to be decided after hearing within the next two months. These are cases which have been pending since 2014 on till 2016.
The Supreme Court has directed courts across the country to clear back logged cases.
As of now, 186 civil cases and 87 criminal side cases are pending in the Sikkim High Court.
In the month of May, the High Court registered 24 civil cases and eight criminal cases including appeals and has disposed of 13 civil cases and six criminal cases.
