Governor Ganga Prasad today participated in a special plantation drive organised by the Sikkim Bihari Jagran Manch at the Indrakill Prayag premises at IBM Rangpo on his arrival from Siliguri.
The Governor was joined by Forest Minister Karma Lodey Bhutia and other officials on the occasion.
SBJM president Swaminath Prasad and other executive members welcomed the Governor on his arrival.
The Governor, while lauding the initiative taken by Sikkim Bihari Jagaran Manch, appealed to every Sikkimese to come forward to sustain the momentum that the state has achieved in increasing the forest cover over the last decade.
He further underlined the need to include fruit trees in plantation drives in order to augment the potential of horticulture in the State and making the plantations economically beneficial for the farming community.
Incidently, saplings of various tropical fruits were part of the plantation drive today.
