Mangan, June 18 [IPR]: HRD Minister, KN Lepcha, who also holds the portfolio for Land Revenue & Disaster Department, accompanied by Roads & Bridges Minister, Samdup Lepcha, and Forest Minister Karma Loday Bhutia today jointly inspected the damage caused by Monday night’s torrential rain at Mantam in Dzongu.

The Ministers were accompanied by the District Magistrate, North, Raj Yadav, and officers from the line department.

At Mantan, around half a kilometer of road leading to Upper Dzongu has been completely washed away by Kanaka river and the only foot suspension bridge swept away totally cutting off Tingvong, Sakyong-Pentong and Lingden GPU from the rest of the State.

After taking stock of the damage, the District Magistrate was asked to start restoration works as early as possible.

Thereafter, the Minister inspected the ongoing work of protection wall at the base of Mangan Bazaar and instructed the DM, North to expedite the work.

In turn the DM, North, suggested that to totally stabilize the landslide prone area, a composite plan will be required. In this context, the DM informed that a detailed project has already sent to the Government of India.

Minister Kunga Nima Lepcha assured that he will pursue the matter with the Centre.
