Syndicates and taxi stands to go back to driver associations
 

 

Gangtok, 27 Jun:
In a cabinet meeting held today at Tashiling Secretariat the Chief Minister PS Tamang [Golay] made a slew of announcements. 
A press communiqué from the Chief Minister’s Office informs that the CM announced that a Commission will be set up for Identification of genuine BPL families for formulation of suitable schemes for them. 
The Commission will also identify BPL families from among the business community, the release informs. The Commission will submit a report within 90 days.
The Cabinet has also resolved to reinstate the old academic calendar from the next academic session. Although the press statement does not elaborate, the government has clearly decided to do away with the 25-day summer vacation at schools which had been incorporated after reducing the duration of winter break. In fact, government schools across the State began their summer break today.
While on education and schools, the CM also announced that teachers acquiring higher qualifications will henceforth be eligible to apply for higher posts.
The Cabinet also decided that laptops will also be provided to Sikkimese students studying in private colleges and universities in Sikkim.
Land donors of Government schools will be provided job as per their qualification, it was further resolved.
The CM also announced that salaries of Primary and Junior High School teachers and staff members will henceforth be disbursed from their respective BACs.
Another decision promised in the election manifesto was also cleared today with the Cabinet deciding that all syndicate and taxi stands will be handed over to Taxi Driver Associations. These were currently with cooperatives, it may be recalled.
The government will also be introducing online booking system of registered taxis in the coming days.
The Cabinet also decided that Motor vehicle tax payment will henceforth be offered with provision of payment options for one year and five years. This payment option will also be offered online soon, the cabinet decided.
In the next phase, the Transport Department will take steps to allow online vehicle registration, transfer of ownership, fitness, online permit etc.
In-principle clearance was also given to waiver of mutation fee on ancestral land while registering in the name of siblings. Even registration and mutation of land will be made online in the coming days, the Cabinet agreed as will online payment facility for utility bills (Electricity, Sewerage, water and garbage).
Online trade license registration and renewal payment system will also be introduced in the coming days in the state with an option of payment annually and one time for five years, the CM announced.
E-services will be introduced through e-district projects in the coming days and subsequently the online facilities to be provided in all GPUs.
