Asar Mahotsav celebrated at Lingchom
Gyalshing, 30 Jun [IPR]: Asar Mahotsav, organised by Sarvodaya Samaj, was celebrated in grand manner here at Lingchom, Gyalshing, in West Sikkim with Agriculture Minister LN Sharma as the chief guest and joining the paddy planting activity that Asar Mahotsav celebrates. Today was also Asar ko Pandhra Gatey, the day when paddy has traditionally been transplanted to the fields.
The Minister, in his address, went over the achievements of the newly formed SKM government and praised the leadership of Chief Minister PS Tamang [Golay].
He then strongly urged the public to participate in agricultural practices.
He also shared that he has advised officials of departments under his charge to visit the districts on a regular basis to understand the plight of the people at the ground level and then come up with possible solutions.
He further briefed the people about the central scheme which provides financial aid to farmers under the PM Kisan Scheme under which an amount of Rs 6,000 will be given to farmers in three installments as an honorarium for their contributions.
He also informed farmers in the audience that collection centers will be established soon along with the selection of a Model Village in each district where priority will be given to agricultural growth practices.
He assured that all possible help will be extended by the State government to make Sikkim's farmers prosperous.
PHE Minister BH Limboo, who was also present for the occasion as guest of honour, in turn spoke about the significance of Asar Mahotsav and how it used to be traditionally be celebrated and how it has progressed over the years.
He also asked officials to assist farmers in whatever capacity they can.
The program included a paddy planting ceremony joined by the Ministers and other guests, quiz, cultural performances and different activities like mud football, volleyball etc.
