SKM convenes meet with tourism stakeholders


Gangtok, 30 Jun:

Sikkim Krantikari Morch convened its first meet with tourism stakeholders since forming the government here on Sunday which had the Confidential Assistant to the Chief Minister, Bikash Basnet, as chief guest.

In his address, Mr Basnet shared that the State government was very positive on tourism and assured that all possible support will be extended to the stakeholders.

He urged stakeholders to further strengthen and expand the section and invited them to place positive and creative suggestions to the CM for the development of tourism in the State.

Mr Basnet encouraged the younger generation to join the tourism industry and focusing on village tourism and hotel management.

He stressed the need to develop proper tourism infrastructure and recognized that improvements in road connectivity were necessary.

Likewise, Lukendra Rasaily, representing the travel agents, appealed the government to ensure strict vigil against non-registered travel agencies so that tourists receive proper and accountable hospitality.

He also highlighted various issues and problems being faced by the sector and placed various suggestions at the meeting.
