Vivid Kala Academy to host grand World Photography Day observation

Gangtok, 11 Jul:

Vivid Kala Academy has announced plans to celebrate World Photography Day 2019 with a photography competition and exhibition in collaboration with the Press Club of Sikkim and Journalists Union of Sikkim on 19 August in Gangtok.

The theme for the photography contest is ‘Land, Flora, Fauna and People at the Foothills of Himalayas’ and is open to all.

This was announced by VKA president, Kiran Rasaily, while addressing a press conference here today.

Mr Rasaily informed that the organisation has been celebrating this day since 2012.

“This year is the 180th year of the invention of the modern photography. So, we have decided to celebrate the World Photography Day in grand manner this year,” he said.

He pointed out that nowadays everyone has a camera [in their phones] and to take photographs was easier, but VKA was insisting on making photographs and resurrecting the craft and art involved.

Speaking on the photography exhibition, Mr Rasaily mentioned that interested photographers should send 16x20 inch photo prints along with a soft copy in CD or on mail.

The 24 best photographs will be shortlisted and awarded cash prizes and certificates. All entries will receive participating certificates.

“All entries will be displayed at an exhibition in Gangtok on the World Photography Day on 19 August and then the exhibition will be taken to schools and other parts of the State for a week,” Mr Rasaily said. The last date to send the entries is 10 August.

Interested photographers can contact Mr Rasaily at 9475301797 and or Bhim Rawat on 9832376668 and for further details.
