Gangtok, 15 Jul:
Packet milk supply in Sikkim has fallen prey to the poor condition of the national highway and the state roads.
As far as the capital is concerned, it has now been two days that the Sikkim Milk packets have not made it to neighbourhood shops.
The culprit, transport disruptions caused by the litter of slips and slides which have inundated roads in the State.
The Sikkim Cooperative Milk Producers Union has conveyed that the continuous rain of the recent days had made road transport unreliable and that this has caused the fall in Sikkim Milk supplies.
SCMPU adds that owing to the road condition, milk supply vehicles are not reaching the processing plant in time and the supplies are going sour en route.
It adds that this disruption was also negatively affecting the dairy farmers apart from inconveniencing the people.
