First EWC hosted in Sikkim by AIC-SMUTBI Majitar


Gangtok, 24 Jul:

AIC-SMU Technology Business Incubation Foundation (SMUTBI), Majitar Sikkim, one of the 100 world class incubator of Govt of India, envisioned and fully supported by Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, Govt of India, hosted the First Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) Regional Finals in Collaboration with MiSK (the Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Foundation of Dubai), in partnership with the Global Entrepreneurship Network and The Global Education & Leadership Foundation (tGELF).

With around 30,000 registrations from across the nation and seven cities hosting the regional finals, 20 teams were selected for each regional finals. The winning teams from each region will proceed to the National Finals in Delhi on 03 Aug, 2019. The winner in Delhi would represent India at the Global Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 12 Nov, 2019 with prizes worth $5 million.

There were 16 start-up participating teams judged by 5 premiere judges from around the nation. The team of Editor-in-chief, Karma Palzor, East Mojo, Founder/CEO of iShippo, Karma Bhutia, MeGoYo, Niko, CTO/ Founder Member of Smarter Specs,MrKrishanu Seal, Singapore, Vice President (Legal), Rupesh Mishra, Executive Capital, and Mentor cum Program Director at inQ innovation, MrDebasisChakraborty evaluated all the start-ups to decide who proceeds to the national finals.

The inaugural ceremony saw the presence of Vice Chancellor, SMU, Lt Gen (Dr) Venkatesh as the Chief Guest and Hon’ble Minister, Karma Loday Bhutia, Department of Science and Technology as the Chief Guest for the second half of the day. Joint Secretary, N Jaswant,Commerce and Industries Department was the Guest of Honor for the event. In the presence of tGELF officials and the guests, the event was hosted by KhushbooGurung and Nikola Okero(tGELF). Chief Guest, SMU Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen (Dr) Venkatesh, addressing the function mentioned the day to be historical and praised the enthusiasm of all the participants to come all the way to Sikkim for the event.

The first half of the day saw the pitching competition where all the start-ups ranging from ideation stage to established ones presented their ideas to the present mass.

The second half of the day also saw a simultaneous 1st Cohort screening done for the entrepreneurs of Sikkim for AIC- SMU Technology Business Incubation Foundation (SMUTBI), Majitar by CTO/ Founder Member of Smarter Specs,Krishanu Seal, Singapore, Vice President (Legal), MrRupesh Mishra, Executive Capital, and Mentor cum Program Director at inQ innovation, MrDebasisChakrabortyalong with the winners been declared for the First Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) Regional Finals.

Eventuate Innovations Pvt. Ltd. for Ezy Spit from Nagpur was declared the winner of the Sikkim leg. Pavingplus and Primary Health Tech. were two teams who received special mention from the jury.
