SDF advises SKM to rise above petty politics and continue Organic Mission

Gangtok, 25 Jul:

Sikkim Democratic Front has advised Sikkim Krantikari Morcha to rise above petty politics and try and understand the importance of the Sikkim Organic Mission to take it forward in the interest of the farmers of the State.

SDF has asserted that the silence and ignorance of Agriculture Minister Loknath Nepal towards the organic mission will take away the benefits of organic farming from Sikkimese farmers.

An SDF press release issued by its spokesperson, JB Darnal, further suggests that the SKM government give continuity to all physical infrastructural and inclusive pro-people plans and programmes of SDF.

The release mentions that during his four-day official tour and inspection of organic farms established by the SDF government in West District, the Agriculture Minister did not mention Organic Mission even once.

SDF believes that this was so because either the Agriculture Minister has some personal issues with the former CM or is opposed to the Organic Mission of the former CM and SDF government.

The release stated that in the recent seminar of Agriculture Ministers of the country under the chairmanship of the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar at Delhi on 09 July, the Union Minister asserted that agricultural scientists and farmers should visit Sikkim to study organic farming.

However, it is very unfortunate for the people of Sikkim that the State Agriculture Minister has not spoken a single word on the mission in his engagements in Sikkim despite claiming credit outside the State, the release adds.
