Khamdong-Singtam celebrates academic excellence of Yangchen Doma Tamang


Khamdong, 26 Jul:

Yangchen Doma Tamang of Badong Thangsing, East Sikkim, was felicitated by Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association [SABA] on being selected after a national level competition to pursue her further studies at Adriatic United College, Italy.

She is among the top-20 students selected from India and the only one from the entire North-Eastern Region to study abroad.

She was felicitated on the second day of the ongoing 17th State Boxing Championship 2019 here Sonamati Memorial Senior Secondary School on Friday.

Yangchen Doma Tamang is the eldest daughter of Bir Bahadur Tamang and Nindu Ongmu Tamang from the village of Badong Thangsing under Khamdong-Singtam constituency in East Sikkim.

She completed her primary education from Rumtek Senior Secondary School and secondary education from Him Jyoti School, Dehradun, on a Himjyoti scholarship.

A very bright student, she has now been selected after a national competition and is proceeding to Adriatic United College for further studies.

It is informed that she applied for this scholarship last year and had to write five essays following which she was selected for an interview along with 120 students from across the country and was then placed among the top-20 students from the country.

She is leaving for Italy on 23 August.

Speaking to media persons, Yangchen expressed immense happiness on receiving the opportunity to study aboard.

She said, “I just finished my class X and now will be pursuing my first and second year of the college and then according to my IB marks I will be admitted into a university there.”

Yangchen informed that she can choose any six subjects of which mathematics, Italian and English were compulsory and she will be taking geography, political science and physics.

Yangchen’s father, Bir Bahadur Tamang, expressed his happiness and great satisfaction on his daughter’s achievement.

“She is a very bright student and never came second since class 1. I am very happy for achievements of my daughter,” he said.
