SRM University Sikkim conducted a short talk today on “Emotional Intelligence” by Padma Shree Prof. Ghese Nawang Samten, Vice Chancellor, University of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarnath, as per a press release.
The talk witnessed the participation of all the faculty members of the University. Prof Samten highlighted the importance of eliminating negative emotions like anger, ego, hatred and inculcating more positive emotions like compassion and love.
He mentioned the three stages to manage these emotions namely, reduce, subdue and eliminate. He emphasized on being aware of the various emotions one goes through and managing them. Meditation was one of the important ways he underlined to understand and control human emotions.
He also reiterated that study of emotions has become one of the prime researches in neuropsychology currently. He shed some light upon the concept of Social-Emotional learning (SEL), which is largely adopted by schools, corporate houses and Institutions to manage the emotional balance of employees and to release stress.
“Understanding and being aware of our emotions would help us solve many major problems of our lives,” he said.
The session was followed by queries and discussion. The program concluded with the felicitation of Prof Samten by the Vice Chancellor of SRM University Sikkim, Prof Ch. Satish Kumar.
